Cord Cutting Ritual
Cord Cutting Ritual

I found a need to end a long term relationship with a blood-relative that no longer served me. In some ways, this ritual took three years to complete. The initiation involved cutting physical contact, including a change of address and phone number. I spent time with elders and ancestral spirits cultivating understanding, so I had their support to cut contact. I changed the way I referred to the person in conversation, adopting new titles, and even abstaining from mentioning them for several weeks. I conducted frequent divinatory readings to understand my motivations and what gifts and scars this person had left on my shadow. After three years, I was mentally and emotionally prepared to no longer consider this person as family, friend, or acquaintance.
With all this in mind, I began by making a simple braided cord using colored string that was emblematic of the bond between us. I choose red to represent the blood we share, blue to represent the conscious impediments presented by the relationship, and black for the unconscious. As I wove the physical cord, I also wove in memories of the relationship, both good and bad. The cord became the physical manifestation of the love and loss between us. My blood, effort, and tears imbued the cord with life. I wove the strings with these subtler forces until I could feel the cord breath on its own.
Next, I gathered what few gifts and mementos I had left from the person. I burned them and invested the residual power into a Saturnian Sigil. I used this sigil to empower a Saturnian Candle the same way I would create any other talisman. With the preparations set, I could commence the ritual.
I set the appropriate mood with candles, incense, and music and achieved a light trance state. I lit the Saturnian Candle and held the cord before its flame. I recited this charm as many times as needed to gather sufficient energy such that I was convinced the Saturnian Flame would do as I instructed.
I cut the cord and ties that bind,
I separate your life from mine.
With good intent, we forget our past,
Neither blood nor time can hold us fast.
Let us bid our last farewell,
For within my mind you do not dwell.
With gratitude for lessons learned,
What's left between us be now burned.
Let this flame sever you from me,
Cut the cord, and set us free.
Upon uttering the final word, "free," I moved the cord into the flame and severed the connection. This charm is inspired by many other cord cutting rituals as can be found online. I structured this one to cover multiple planar bases; this includes body, mind, and soul, as well as physical, emotional, mental, and divine. The flame is meant to sever all connections and is a rejection of every facet of the relationship whether negative or positive. I embraced the lessons learned, but acknowledge they are my own and not the other person's. I reject any genetic relationship, any time spent together, and any notion that we may meet again.
Blowing out the candle seals the spell. I placed all biodegradable remnants into a sealed envelope and interred them to the Underworld.
