Cord Cutting Ritual
I found a need to end a long term relationship with a blood-relative that no longer served me. In some ways, this ritual took three years to complete. The initiation involved cutting physical contact, including a change of address and phone number. I spent time with elders and ancestral spirits cultivating understanding, so I had their support to cut contact. I changed the way I referred to the person in conversation, adopting new titles, and even abstaining from mentioning them for several weeks. The flame is meant to sever all connections and is a rejection of every facet of the relationship whether negative or positive. I embraced the lessons learned, but acknowledge they are my own and not the other person's. I reject any genetic relationship, any time spent together, and any notion that we may meet again.
