A Money Making Servitor

ATM

As part of a witchcraft competition, I created a servitor to earn as much money as fast as possible.

The Weird Sisters

At some point, it became common knowledge that some of the participants were planning to use magic to siphon off energy from other competitors. This meant any solution would have to somehow function while thwarting attempts to steal. I settled on a decoy with a bait-and-switch strategy. Inspired by shell games, I crafted a three-faced servitor I named "The Weird Sisters."

I had recently taken three cuttings from a large golden pothos and replanted them together into a bright yellow pot. I collected some cinnamon, crepe myrtle leaves, and some pennies that had been laying in the sun. I pinched the crepe myrtle leaves from a tree at the local bank (with the tree's consent). The pennies were intended to "feed" the servitor plant with sunlight-infused currency. I included the cinnamon to give the three cuttings warm and sultry personalities. Though these three sisters would function as a unit, each cutting had her own personality and unique face. I combined the materials and enchanted them using Luck Be A Lady.

Each day of the competition, I fed the servitor a few pennies I had laying in the window (absorbing sunlight). One sister would seek out a source of wealth, a second would collect it, and the third would lead interlopers to the decoy (see below). The three would exchange roles each day so that would-be interlopers would be presented with new faces if they made repeated attempts to steal my earnings.

The Decoy

For the decoy, I negotiated some temp work with a forest far from my home. This particular patch of forest had a well-traveled path frequented by runners and bikers. I enlisted the trees to encourage travelers to drop their wallet or something else valuable. I placed a hand on the ground and made contact via the root system of the forest. I explained my request, negotiated a boundary, and set a password (knock twice and say, "scrabble").

It felt appropriate to focus the curse on a wooden bridge over a creek in the middle of the forest. I went to the stream bed and collected sand and crepe myrtle leaves (from the bank) into a glass jar. I placed a Saturnian seal and a nylon strap on the bottom of the jar with the intention to pull and hold items (and thieving witches!) in this forest like a black hole. I made the symbol flashy metallic yellow to pass if off as "gold." The Weird Sisters were directed to respond to the presence of any interlopers with an acquiescent smile, then bring them directly to the jar of "gold." I left the jar under the watchful eye of an old maple.

The Result

Middling compared to others in the competition. This kind of money magic isn't really my forte. Over the course of the competition, I had two relatives offer me money which I declined (I'm more well-off than them). This included an aunt who had been struggling for months to claim her late husband's pension, but suddenly received word that her request had been approved and that they would fully reimburse her for the late benefits. She received $30k USD of which she offered me $100. Another relative offered me an unspecified amount of money "in case I needed it." I also received an unexpected extra $100 from work related to an unnoticed clerical error. Lastly, the forest curse yielded a pair of gold colored designer sunglasses that normally retail for $60.

I decided to keep the servitor around and continued to feed it. I eventually swapped the sunny pennies for sunny acorns. Over time, I found that the greater effect this servitor had was on limiting my expenses. I seemed to always be in the right place at the right time to receive a limited-time discount. There were several instances where on trips I would be led to places with deeply discounted or free food and entertainment. Even as inflation was rising post-COVID, I always seemed to stumble into the best deals for groceries and everyday home essentials. I've probably saved hundreds of dollars over the two years since the competition despite an increase in my standard of living.

Of course, I wound up sacrificing this servitor as part of crafting the Talisman of Cultivation. I saved a small clipping from the healthiest looking sister. I think the Weird Sisters were stretched too thin to be effective. Their next iteration ought to be more focused.
